A patient died in a fire involving a private ambulance at the premises of Udala Medical in Odisha, in an incident linked to an oxygen cylinder. Was the cylinder damaged, or did leaking oxygen catch fire? A private ambulance driver with 15 years of experience has explained how oxygen cylinders are installed in ambulances and how oxygen is administered to patients. According to the driver, improper operation of the cylinder’s upper lock and lower valve while opening it can lead to oxygen leakage. He said oxygen cylinders do not themselves explode, but leaked oxygen can fuel a fire if there is an electrical short circuit or the vehicle is running. However, the exact cause of the incident remains unclear and will be established only after an investigation. OTV reporter Abhijit Biswal brings further details from the spot.
