The INDIA Bloc’s march to the Supreme Court in Delhi over Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has intensified political tensions. Despite Chief Justice of India Surya Kant declining the leaders’ request for a meeting and asking them to file petitions, Congress leaders and supporters marched towards the court, where police used barricades to stop the protesters. Rahul Gandhi’s legal team subsequently filed two petitions concerning the constitutional protection available to the CEC and alleged police action against protesters. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the petitions on October 27, and cases against Gyanesh Kumar are set to be heard together.
