Allegations of disrespecting Mahaprabhu’s Mahaprasad have surfaced near Puri Railway Station. A makeshift hotel owner is accused of collecting leftover Mahaprasad and selling it again after reheating it and adding coconut, onion, garlic and other tempering. There is also an allegation that non-vegetarian food is being sold at the same hotel along with Mahaprasad. The allegations have triggered strong reactions among local residents. In Puri, Mahaprasad is served at functions including weddings, Brata, Sudhi Ghar ceremonies and birthdays. After such functions, leftover Mahaprasad is reportedly brought to the railway station area and given to poor people. Locals have strongly objected to the alleged practice and questioned how such an act could take place in the sacred city.
