Nepal Seeks Climate Compensation from India, China & US After Deadly Flash Floods

ନେପାଳରେ ଭୟଙ୍କର ଫ୍ଲାସ୍ ଫ୍ଲଡରେ ୧୧ ଶହରୁ ଅଧିକ ମୂଲ୍ୟବାନ୍ ଜୀବନ ଚାଲିଗଲା ଏବଂ ପ୍ରାୟ ୪ ହଜାର ଲୋକ ଏବେ ବି ନିଖୋଜ ଅଛନ୍ତି । ହେଲେ ଏଥିପାଇଁ ନେପାଳ ସରକାର ଏଥର ସିଧାସଳଖ ଆଙ୍ଗୁଠି ଦେଖାଇଛନ୍ତି ବିଶ୍ୱର ମହାଶକ୍ତିମାନଙ୍କ ଆଡ଼କୁ। ନେପାଳ କହୁଛି – ‘‘ଏହା ପ୍ରାକୃତିକ ବିପର୍ଯ୍ୟୟ ନୁହେଁ, ଏହା ବଡ଼ ବଡ଼ ଦେଶମାନଙ୍କ ଅଙ୍ଗାରକାମ୍ଳ ନିର୍ଗମନର କୁଫଳ।’’ ଆଉ ଏଥିପାଇଁ ଚୀନ୍, ଆମେରିକା ଏବଂ ଭାରତ କ୍ଷତିପୂରଣ ଦିଅନ୍ତୁ ବୋଲି ଦାବି କରିଛି କାଠମାଣ୍ଡୁ ।

Nepal has sought climate-related compensation from major greenhouse gas emitters China, the United States and India following the devastating flash floods that struck the country. More than 1,100 people have died and thousands remain missing after the disaster. Nepal Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said the country contributes very little to global greenhouse gas emissions but is facing the disproportionate impact of climate change. Nepal has argued that the support it seeks should be viewed as justice and compensation rather than charity. The demand comes as rescue and recovery operations continue following the deadly floods along the Nepal-China border.
