Odisha Cancels Government Employees’ Leave Amid Cyclone Threat

With a possible cyclonic storm approaching the Odisha coast, the state government has stepped up preparedness and cancelled the leave of government officials and employees in Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati and Khordha districts, directing them to report for duty immediately. The India Meteorological Department has forecast increasing rainfall from October 26, with extremely heavy to exceptionally heavy rainfall possible in parts of the state over the following days. In Cuttack, the district administration has directed the removal of unsafe puja arches, hoardings and temporary structures within 48 hours. The Cuttack Municipal Corporation may remove structures that are not cleared within the deadline. Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari said relief arrangements and cyclone shelters are being prepared, while ODRAF and NDRF teams remain on alert. The cyclone’s exact track and landfall location are yet to be confirmed.
