Tributes were paid to police officers and personnel who laid down their lives during anti-Naxal operations and in the fight against criminals. The 67th Police Commemoration Day was observed at the Police Headquarters in Buxi Bazaar, Cuttack. DGP Binaytosh Mishra and other senior officers paid floral tributes to the martyrs and presented a Guard of Honour. Speaking on the occasion, the DGP said the police would respond firmly to Naxals, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and other criminals, adding that the force was prepared to make the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. He also noted that while the number of police personnel martyred annually was over 1,000 around 2000, it has now fallen below 100, expressing hope that the figure would decline further in the coming years.
