A patient died in a fire involving a private ambulance at the premises of Udala Medical in Odisha. The incident has raised questions about whether the oxygen cylinder exploded or leaking oxygen caught fire. An ambulance driver with 15 years of experience has demonstrated how oxygen cylinders are fitted in private ambulances and how oxygen is administered to patients. According to the driver, improper operation of the cylinder’s locking mechanism and valve while opening it may cause oxygen leakage. He said that leaked oxygen could fuel a fire if there is an electrical short circuit or the vehicle is running. However, the exact cause of the incident has not yet been established and will become clear only after an investigation. OTV reporter Abhijit Biswal brings further details from the spot.
