A new study has raised concerns over rapidly growing glacier lakes in Uttarakhand's Alaknanda basin. As many as 131 glacial lakes have now been identified, with 57 formed in the last 30 years. If a natural ice-and-rock dam fails, a sudden Glacial Lake Outburst Flood could send huge volumes of water, debris and rocks downstream.
