After four years of investigation and trial, a Maharashtra court has awarded the death penalty in a brutal 2021 case involving a 9-year-old girl in Palghar. The accused, a 51-year-old shopkeeper, was convicted of sexually assaulting and killing the child after allegedly luring her to his home. During the trial, statements from 24 witnesses were recorded. The Palghar District and Additional Sessions Court termed the crime extremely heinous and held the accused guilty under multiple sections, delivering a major verdict in the long-pending case.
