UPI transactions will see a new Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) framework from October 15, with charges applicable to specified merchant payments above ₹2,000. However, person-to-person UPI transactions will remain completely free, irrespective of the amount transferred. The new framework does not impose a direct charge on individuals using UPI.
