A unique tradition takes centre stage at the beginning of the Jhulan festival at the Jhulan Mandap associated with Mukti Mandap in Puri. According to Sri Jagannath culture expert and preacher Pandit Suryanarayan Rathasharma, two large figures known as “Kali Yuga Bhenda” arrive from the Uttar Dwara (North Gate) when the Jhulan festival begins.
