The Odisha State Sentence Review Board has rejected Dara Singh’s plea for premature release in the Graham Staines murder case. The Board cited concerns that his release could have an impact on society and could potentially lead to communal tension. The decision was taken at a special meeting on August 31, ahead of the Supreme Court hearing scheduled for September 17. The Board also considered a report from the Keonjhar district administration regarding provocative sloganeering outside the Keonjhar District Jail on August 15. Dara Singh has spent more than 26 years in prison and had sought premature release under Odisha’s 2022 remission guidelines.
