A 55-year-old man, Harishchandra Kanda Gauda, died after coming into contact with a dangling 11 kV electric wire while working on his agricultural land in Gumurapadar village under Raighar block in Nabarangpur district, Odisha, yesterday. According to allegations, the power line was hanging dangerously low over the farmland, and the electricity department had reportedly been informed earlier, but no repair or relocation measures were taken. Demanding compensation for the deceased’s family, his relatives, villagers and Congress leader Sanraj Gand staged a protest outside the electricity department office, placing the body at the site. No response from the power distribution company or the police was available at the time of reporting.
