Bay Depression to Intensify, Cross Vizag-Gopalpur Coast; Heavy Rain in Odisha

The depression over the Bay of Bengal is gradually intensifying and has moved 18 km westward in the last six hours. It is currently around 200 km southeast of Gopalpur and about 210 km south of Puri, while lying around 200 km from Kalingapatnam and 290 km from Visakhapatnam. Moving west-northwestwards, the system is likely to intensify into a deep depression within 12 hours and may cross the North Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur between the night of September 23 and early hours of September 24. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely across Odisha, with 13 districts under Orange Warning and 9 under Yellow Warning today. From tomorrow, Ganjam, Gajapati and Koraput are under Red Warning, while Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur are under Red Warning on September 24. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected on September 23 and 24.
