A low-pressure area has formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal, and it may intensify into a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 26, according to IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra. The system is expected to become a depression on October 24 and a deep depression on October 25 before potentially developing into a cyclone over the west-central Bay of Bengal on October 26. It may approach the North Andhra Pradesh–South Odisha coast on the morning of October 28. Wind speeds are currently around 35–45 kmph over the adjoining south-east and east-central Bay of Bengal. They may increase to 45–55 kmph on October 24, 55–65 kmph, gusting to 75 kmph, on October 25, and up to 90 kmph on October 26. Mohapatra said the maximum wind speed is yet to be forecast and will be assessed after the system develops into a depression. The system is expected to intensify gradually and move towards the coast.
