A suspected diarrhoea outbreak has been reported in Marthapur village under Podamari Panchayat in Sanakhemundi block of Ganjam district. More than 20 people are reportedly affected, while four deaths have been alleged in connection with the outbreak. The cases surfaced after villagers attended a post-death ritual feast for Bharat Mallik, who had died after suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting.
Health Department teams have reached Marthapur and are investigating the possible cause of the outbreak. Drinking water sources, including tube wells and water tanks, are being inspected and disinfected with bleaching powder. Officials are also visiting the affected families and creating health awareness.
