Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, focusing on India-China relations, border issues, trade and investment. PM Modi stressed that differences between the two countries should not turn into disputes and that bilateral ties should be guided by mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interests. He said maintaining peace and stability in border areas and respecting existing agreements and understandings are essential for stronger relations. Both leaders expressed commitment to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution of the border issue. Xi Jinping said he and PM Modi have met 21 times in recent years, helping stabilise ties, and called for cooperation between the two countries for global peace and human welfare.
