The Odisha State Pollution Control Board has issued special guidelines to ensure an eco-friendly Diwali celebration. As per the guidelines, firecrackers can be burst only between 7 PM and 9 PM, and only green crackers are permitted during this two-hour period. Garland crackers and excessively loud firecrackers have been prohibited. Bursting crackers is also banned in silent zones, including areas near hospitals, educational institutions, courts and religious places. People have been advised to follow safety precautions, protect children and elderly people, and take care of pets and birds. Buyers have been asked to check the CSIR-NEERI logo and QR code on green cracker packets. Violations may invite legal action. The Board has urged people to celebrate Diwali safely with traditional lamps, lights and cultural programmes while avoiding firecracker and noise pollution.
