Dussehra is drawing closer and preparations for Durga Puja are in full swing across Odisha. At the Saheed Nagar Durga Puja Samiti in Bhubaneswar, artisans are working round the clock on a 80-foot-high and 130-foot-wide grand pandal showcasing glimpses of Odisha’s art and culture. Around 50 artisans from Bengal have been working on the structure since Janmashtami, while a 50-foot lighting installation will add to the attraction. The Goddess will be adorned with silver tableau work and gold ornaments, with the committee also aiming for a waste-free and environment-friendly Puja. In Rourkela’s Sector-8, the Puja committee is creating a pandal inspired by Udaipur City Palace, using thousands of bamboo pieces, foam and cloth. Artisans from West Bengal’s 24 Parganas are working day and night, while royal-style detailing and elaborate lighting will enhance the Puja premises. As devotees await the arrival of Maa Durga, preparations continue at a rapid pace.
