For many elderly, Divyang (persons with disabilities), and vulnerable citizens, government pension assistance remains out of reach despite fulfilling all eligibility criteria and completing the application and verification process. Many senior citizens have crossed the age of 70 but are still waiting for pension benefits, while some above 80 continue to receive assistance at the old rate. Administrative norms and beneficiary targets have delayed approvals, with new beneficiaries being added only after vacancies arise due to the death of existing beneficiaries. The prolonged wait has raised questions over whether the existing rules should be revised or if administrative reforms are needed to ensure timely assistance for all eligible beneficiaries.
