The Odisha government has announced a new initiative to plant palm trees along agricultural field boundaries to help reduce the impact of lightning-related disasters. Under the plan, farmers will receive palm saplings along with financial assistance for plantation. The Revenue Department has provided special funds to the Forest Department for the initiative.

While the government aims to use palm trees as a safety measure against lightning, some farmers have expressed concerns that palm trees could create difficulties for crop cultivation. The initiative is expected to be implemented across farming areas of the state.
