Indian-Origin NASA Astronaut Anil Menon Begins First Spacewalk Outside ISS

ଭାରତୀୟ ବଂଶୋଦ୍ଭବ ନାସା ମହାକାଶଚାରୀ ଅନୀଲ୍ ମେନନ୍ ଙ୍କ ସ୍ପେସ୍ ୱକ୍ । ଆଜି ଅନ୍ତର୍ଜାତୀୟ ମହାକାଶ ଗବେଷଣା କେନ୍ଦ୍ର ବାହାରେ ନିଜର ପ୍ରଥମ ମହାକାଶ ଯାତ୍ରା ସଫଳତାର ସହ ଆରମ୍ଭ କରିଛନ୍ତି ଅନିଲ। ୟୁଏସ୍ ସ୍ପେସ ୱକ୍-96 ନାମରେ ନାମିତ ଏହି ଅପରେସନ ଭାରତୀୟ ସମୟ ସନ୍ଧ୍ୟା ୬ଟା ୩ରେ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହୋଇଛି। ଏହା ପ୍ରାୟ ସାଢେ ୬ରୁ ରୁ ୭ ଘଣ୍ଟା ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଚାଲିବ। ମେନନଙ୍କ ସହ ଅଭିଜ୍ଞ ନାସା କମାଣ୍ଡର ଜେସିକା ମେୟର ମଧ୍ୟ ଏହି ମିଶନରେ ସାମିଲ ଅଛନ୍ତି । ଜେସିକାଙ୍କ ଏହା ଷଷ୍ଠ ସ୍ପେସ ୱକ୍। ଜେସିକା ମେୟର ନାଲି ରଙ୍ଗର ଗାର ଥିବା ସୁଟ୍ ପିନ୍ଧିଛନ୍ତି ଏବଂ ଅନିଲ୍ ମେନନ୍ ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଧଳା ରଙ୍ଗର ସୁଟ୍ ପିନ୍ଧିଛନ୍ତି। ଉଭୟ ମହାକାଶଚାରୀ ଷ୍ଟେସନର 3B ପାୱାର ଚ୍ୟାନେଲରେ ଆବଶ୍ୟକୀୟ ସଂଶୋଧନ କରୁଛନ୍ତି। ଚଳିତ ବର୍ଷ ଶେଷ ଆଡ଼କୁ ଆସିବାକୁ ଥିବା IROSA ଅର୍ଥାତ୍ International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Arrayର ସ୍ଥାପନ ପାଇଁ ସେମାନେ ହାର୍ଡୱେର ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତ କରୁଛନ୍ତି। ଏହି ଅପଗ୍ରେଡ୍ ଦ୍ୱାରା ମହାକାଶ ଷ୍ଟେସନର ମୋଟ ବିଦ୍ୟୁତ ଶକ୍ତି ଯୋଗାଣ ୨୦ ରୁ ୩୦ ପ୍ରତିଶତ ବୃଦ୍ଧି ପାଇବ, ଯାହା ଭବିଷ୍ୟତର ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ପାଇଁ ସହାୟକ ହେବ। ଡାକ୍ତର ତଥା ଇଞ୍ଜିନିୟର ଅନିଲ୍ ମେନନ୍ ୨୦୨୧ରେ ନାସାର ମହାକାଶଚାରୀ ଦଳରେ ମନୋନୀତ ହୋଇଥିଲେ। ଏହା ପୂର୍ବରୁ ସେ ୟୁଏସ୍ ସ୍ପେସ୍ ଫୋର୍ସର ଜଣେ କର୍ଣ୍ଣଲ ଏବଂ ସ୍ପେସ୍-ଏକ୍ସର ପ୍ରଥମ ଫ୍ଲାଇଟ୍ ସର୍ଜନ ଭାବେ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ କରିଛନ୍ତି। ସେ ୨୦୨୬ ଜୁଲାଇ ୧୪ରେ ଆଇଏସଏସରେ ପହଞ୍ଚିଥିଲେ। ଅନିଲ ଏହି ମାସରେ ଆହୁରି ଦୁଇ ଥର ସ୍ପେସ୍ ୱକ୍ କରିବା କାର୍ଯ୍ୟକ୍ରମ ରହିଛି।

Indian-origin NASA astronaut Anil Menon has successfully begun his first spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS) under the US Spacewalk-96 mission. The operation started at 6:03 PM IST and is expected to continue for around six-and-a-half to seven hours. NASA astronaut Jessica Meir is also part of the mission.

During the spacewalk, the astronauts are carrying out required modifications to the station’s 3B power channel and preparing hardware for the installation of the International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Array (IROSA) system. The upgrade is expected to increase the ISS power supply capacity by 20 to 30 percent. Anil Menon, a doctor and engineer, was selected for NASA’s astronaut team in 2021 and had earlier served as a US Space Force Colonel and SpaceX’s first flight surgeon.
