A major illicit country-liquor racket has allegedly been busted by the Bhubaneswar Excise Department. Acting on information about illegal liquor trading, a special Excise team raided the suspected operation and seized around 5,000 litres of liquor, plastic bottles and pouches, barrels, and bottling and pouch-sealing machines.

The raid also led to the seizure of four cars, three motorcycles, a firearm, four rounds of ammunition and ₹5 lakh in cash, according to the source. The raid reportedly involved a scuffle between the alleged liquor operators and the Excise team.
