Odisha Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has said the Mahanadi water dispute will be resolved soon. Pujari said the Modi government had earlier constituted separate tribunals for land and water-related disputes and claimed that the Mahanadi dispute could have been avoided if the issue had been properly raised at the time. He further said that by the time the Odisha government raised the complaint, barrages in Chhattisgarh had already been constructed. Pujari said the Chief Ministers of Odisha and Chhattisgarh have now held discussions and expressed confidence that the issue will be resolved soon. The statement comes amid ongoing efforts by the two states towards an amicable settlement of the long-standing Mahanadi water dispute.
