Odisha will observe a bandh tomorrow, called by the State Congress and Left parties over demands for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, withdrawal of the MMDR Bill and the resignation of the School & Mass Education Minister over textbook errors. CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML), NCP, Forward Bloc, Samajwadi Party, RJD and JMM are among the non-BJP parties backing the bandh. Nine major parties held a march from AG Square through Vani Vihar and Master Canteen before returning to AG Square.

Congress has appealed to people from all sections to join the bandh, which may affect normal life. Movement of trucks, buses, autos and other vehicles may be disrupted, while trains could also be affected. Shops, markets, commercial establishments and government and private offices may face disruptions. Petrol pumps and other business establishments may also be affected.

Emergency services including hospitals, ambulances, fire services and medicine shops have been exempted and are expected to continue operating.
