The decades-old Kotia dispute has once again triggered a political storm in Odisha, with Andhra Pradesh reportedly preparing to conduct elections in the region on November 5 despite Odisha’s opposition. The Odisha Government has approached the Supreme Court to stop the move, while political parties are exchanging allegations and raising questions over their respective contributions to protecting Kotia’s rights. As the BJP, BJD and Congress unite against Andhra’s election plan, a major debate unfolds over the role of alliance politics, the Centre and both state governments in finding a permanent solution to the long-standing dispute. Can all-party unity pave the way for a lasting resolution, or will Kotia continue to remain caught in the political crossfire?
