The Press Council of India (PCI) has issued new guidelines for journalists covering protests and agitations. The guidelines emphasise the importance of accuracy, impartiality and journalists’ safety while reporting and broadcasting news. The Council has specifically cautioned that broadcasting the real-time location, strategies and movements of police personnel could create security risks. Journalists have therefore been advised not to disclose such sensitive information while covering protests and demonstrations. The guidelines aim to ensure responsible reporting while prioritising the safety of journalists and security concerns during such events.
