କୌଣସି ଏକ ଭିଜିଲାନ୍ସ ମାମଲାରେ କେହି ଜଣେ ସରକାରୀ ବାବୁ ଧରାପଡ଼ିଲେ କୁହାଯାଏ, ଭିଜିଲାନ୍ସ ଜାଲରେ ପଡ଼ିଲେ ବାବୁ। ହେଲେ ଆଜି ଆକ୍ଷରିକ ଭାବେ ତାହା ସତ ପ୍ରମାଣିତ ହୋଇଛି। ଅର୍ଥାତ ଜଣେ ସରକାରୀ ବାବୁଙ୍କୁ ପୋଖରୀ ଭିତରୁ ହିଁ ଧରିଛି ଭିଜିଲାନ୍ସ। ଘଟଣା ଘଟିଛି ସମ୍ବଲପୁର ମହୁଲପାଲି ଅଞ୍ଚଳରେ। ଭିଜିଲାନ୍ସ ସୂତ୍ରରୁ ମିଳିଥିବା ସୂଚନା ଅନୁଯାୟୀ, ଅଭିଯୁକ୍ତ ଜଣକ ହେଲେ ମହୁଲପାଲି ଥାନାର SI ସୁଜିତ କୁମାର ମହାନ୍ତ। ସେ ଏକ ମାମଲାର ରଫାଦଫା ପାଇଁ ଜଣେ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଙ୍କ ଠାରୁ ୧୦ ହଜାର ଟଙ୍କା ଲାଞ୍ଚ ନେଉଥିଲେ। ଠିକ୍ ଏହି ସମୟରେ ଜାଲ ବିଛାଇଥିବା ଭିଜିଲାନ୍ସ ଟିମ୍ ପହଞ୍ଚିଯାଇଥିଲା ଘଟଣାସ୍ଥଳରେ। ଆଉ ସେହି ଭିଜିଲାନ୍ସ ଟିମକୁ ଦେଖି ନିକଟସ୍ଥ ଏକ ପୋଖରୀକୁ ଡେଇଁପଡ଼ିଥିଲେ ମହୁଲପାଲି ଥାନର SI ସୁଜିତ କୁମାର ମହାନ୍ତ। ଭିଜିଲାନ୍ସ ବି ଛାଡ଼ିଲାନି। ସେହି ପୋଖରୀକୁ ଡେଇଁ ଜଣେ ଭିଜିଲାନ୍ସ ଅଧିକାରୀ ଅଭିଯୁକ୍ତ ପୋଲିସ ଏସଆଇ ସୁଜିତ କୁମାର ମହାନ୍ତଙ୍କୁ ଧରିଥିଲା। ଆଜି ସନ୍ଧ୍ୟାରେ ଘଟିଥିଲା ଏହି ରୋଚକ ଘଟଣା। ସଂପୃକ୍ତ ପୋଲିସ SIଙ୍କ ଠାରୁ ନଗଦ ୧୦ ହଜାର ଟଙ୍କା ଜବତ ସହ ଆୟବହିର୍ଭୂତ ସମ୍ପତ୍ତି ଦିଗରୁ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଠିକଣାରେ ଚଢ଼ାଉ ଓ ତଲାସି ଜାରି ରଖିଛି ଭିଜିଲାନ୍ସ ଟିମ୍। ତାସହ ଥାନା ପରିସରରେ ଥିବା ତାଙ୍କ ବିଶ୍ରାମ କକ୍ଷରୁ ଅତିରିକ୍ତ ୧ ଲକ୍ଷ ୫୫ ହଜାର ୭୦୦ ଟଙ୍କା ବି ଜବତ କରାଯାଇଛି । ଅଭିଯୁକ୍ତ ସୁଜିତ କୁମାର ମହାନ୍ତ ୨୦୨୧ ମସିହାରେ ସିଧାସଳଖ ନିଯୁକ୍ତି ମାଧ୍ୟମରେ ପୋଲିସ SI ଭାବେ ଚାକିରିରେ ଯୋଗ ଦେଇଥିଲେ ବୋଲି ସୂଚନା ମିଳିଛି।

In a dramatic incident in Mahulpali area of Sambalpur district, a police Sub-Inspector allegedly jumped into a pond after spotting a Vigilance team during a bribery trap. The accused SI has been identified as Sujit Kumar Mahanta of Mahulpali Police Station. According to Vigilance sources, he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a person to settle a case when the Vigilance team reached the spot. In an attempt to escape, he jumped into a nearby pond, but a Vigilance officer also jumped into the water and caught him.

The Vigilance team seized ₹10,000 in cash from the accused. An additional ₹1,55,700 was recovered from his rest room inside the police station premises. Searches and raids are underway at various locations in connection with suspected disproportionate assets. Sujit Kumar Mahanta had joined the Odisha Police as a directly recruited Sub-Inspector in 2021.
