The Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border dispute has intensified in Kotia, Koraput, where Andhra Pradesh continues to claim 21 of the 28 villages under the Kotia Gram Panchayat. Police from both states reportedly confronted each other near Neredibalsa over an alleged attempt to remove barricades. Odisha has tightened security ahead of Andhra’s proposed panchayat elections, with Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari announcing the deployment of eight additional platoons.

Pujari said the government is monitoring the situation and will prevent Andhra’s election efforts in Kotia while seeking the Centre’s intervention. BJD has questioned the Centre’s silence, while Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das has urged Kotia residents to boycott the Andhra elections.

The dispute dates back decades, with Odisha approaching the Supreme Court in 1968. Amid the legal battle, Odisha has highlighted development work in Kotia, including 921 housing units, 41 km of roads and 2,070 ration cards. A proposed ₹290-crore ‘Developed Kotia’ action plan focuses on roads, water, electricity, healthcare and livelihoods.
