Quit Job to Take Up Farming, Now Provides Employment to 20 People

ବାଡ଼ିରେ ଫଳିଛି ଛନଛନିଆ କଲରା, କାକୁଡ଼ି, ଜହ୍ନି ସାଙ୍ଗକୁ ବାଇଗଣ ଓ ଝୁଡଙ୍ଗ। ପନିପରିବା ଭଳି ଆଖୁ ଆଉ ଧାନ ବି କ୍ଷେତରେ ଖିଲିଖିଲି ହସୁଛି। କେବଳ କଣ ସେତିକି। ଗାଡିଆରେ ମାଛ ଚାଷ ହେବା ସହ ଫାର୍ମରେ ବଢୁଛନ୍ତି ପ୍ରାୟ ୫ ହଜାର କୁକୁଡ । ଏକୌଣସି ସରକାରୀ ଉଦ୍ୟୋଗର ଚିତ୍ର ନୁହେଁ । ଏ ହେଉଛି ଅନୁଗୋଳ ଜିଲ୍ଲା କଣିହା ବ୍ଲକ ବିରୁ ଗାଁର ଯୁବକ ଶିବାନନ୍ଦ ସାହୁଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ୟମର ଚିତ୍ର । ଦିନେ ଆଇଟିଆଇରେ ପାଠପଢା ପରେ ଘରୋଇ କମ୍ପାନୀରେ ଚାକିରି କରିଥିଲେ । ହେଲେ, ଚାକିରିରେ ମନ ଲାଗିଲାନି । ଚାକିରି ଛାଡ଼ି ଗାଡି କିଣି ଭଡାରେ ଲଗାଇଥିଲେ କିନ୍ତୁ କରୋନା ସବୁ କିଛି ଓଲଟପାଲଟ କରିଦେଲା । ଶେଷରେ ଗାଡି ବିକ୍ରି କରି ଚାଷ ପାଇଁ ମନ ବଳାଇଥିଲେ । ଆଉ ତାପରେ ପଛକୁ ଫେରିନାହାନ୍ତି ଶିବାନନ୍ଦ।

After leaving his private-sector job, Shivananda Sahu of Biru village in Kaniha block of Angul district turned to farming and built a diverse agricultural enterprise. His farm produces vegetables including bitter gourd, cucumber, ridge gourd, brinjal and cowpea, along with sugarcane and paddy. He also undertakes fish farming and rears around 5,000 chickens. Shivananda, who had studied at an ITI and worked for a private company, later quit his job and bought a vehicle for rental purposes. However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted his plans. He eventually sold the vehicle and took up farming, which has now become a source of employment for around 20 people.
