Former PCCF Susanta Nanda has called for the release of the rescued orangutans and their return to their natural habitat. Expressing concern from an ethical perspective, Nanda said that although they are orangutans, they should not be separated from their mothers and kept captive in a zoo merely for people’s entertainment. He stressed that commercial display should be reduced as much as possible and the animals should be taken back to their natural habitat. His remarks come amid the ongoing care and investigation surrounding five rescued baby orangutans in Odisha.
