Tension prevailed outside Balianta Police Station following the death of Smrutiranjan Martha of Balianta Patana village. The victim’s family and local residents staged a protest by placing his body in front of the police station, demanding the immediate arrest of the prime accused and his son. More than 24 hours had passed since the incident, but police had not yet arrested all the accused, triggering widespread resentment among villagers. The protest intensified on Saturday afternoon, prompting the deployment of three platoons of police personnel at the protest site and near the accused’s residence to prevent any untoward incident. The agitation was called off after the authorities reportedly assured the protesters that the accused would be arrested within seven days.
