The notification for student union elections has been issued across Odisha today, setting the stage for campus polls after an eight-year gap. Nominations will be filed on October 9, the final candidate list will be published on October 10, the ‘Why I Stand For’ meeting will be held on October 14, and voting will take place on October 15, followed by counting and results the same day. Elected student leaders will take oath on October 16.

With the election process beginning, campuses across Odisha are witnessing intense activity among aspiring candidates and student organisations. The report also highlights confrontations at Balangir Government College over alleged entry of non-students, group tensions at Fakir Mohan College and a dispute over an NSUI poster at Nilagiri College.

Security has been given priority, with more than 150 CCTV cameras planned across Utkal University to prevent entry of non-students and violence. Police are also patrolling campuses. The election battle is being shaped by campaign strategies, student support and efforts to win the confidence of Gen-Z voters.
