Sugar prices have surged across Odisha, adding to the pressure on household budgets. A month ago, sugar was reportedly selling at around ₹40 to ₹45 per kg in the state’s open market. However, prices have now climbed to ₹60 per kg in some places, ₹64 in others and even touched ₹70 per kg in certain markets. The sharp rise is causing concern among consumers across all sections of society, including low-income and middle-class families. With sugar being an essential kitchen commodity, the price increase is putting additional pressure on household expenses.
