After nine months of anticipation, a family in Gumma village under Tumudibandh block of Kandhamal district is facing an unexpected challenge. A woman has delivered a baby boy with two heads at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. The newborn has two arms, two legs and one heart, but reportedly has no anal opening. The baby is currently admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), where doctors are conducting further examinations.

Doctors say the next course of action will be decided after detailed evaluation by the paediatric surgery department. Complex surgery may be required, and the baby may be referred to another hospital if necessary. The father, Trilochan, has sought government assistance, citing his inability to bear the potentially high treatment costs.

The rare condition brings back memories of Jaga and Kalia, the conjoined twins from Milupada village in Kandhamal's Phiringia block, whose treatment at AIIMS Delhi drew widespread attention. Doctors explain that conjoined twins occur when twin embryos do not completely separate during early pregnancy. Such conditions are not the result of sin, a curse or parental fault. Every child's life is precious, and the newborn needs advanced medical care along with emotional and financial support for the family.
