Dipankar Rout, BCJD’s candidate for the post of president at UK Mahabir College in Madanpur, Patamundai, Kendrapara district, has spoken out following student unrest that led to the cancellation of college elections and the declaration of sine die closure.

Rout alleged that Rajnagar MLA Dhruva Sahu and some BJD leaders from his village pressured him to contest. He said he later went to college to withdraw his nomination after his family objected, but BJD leaders and students allegedly tore his form and dragged him. He claimed ABVP members rescued him and took him to a hospital.

Rout urged political leaders not to use him for political purposes and said the BJD and the MLA would be responsible if any harm came to him. The previous day, BJD workers staged a road blockade and a sit-in outside Patamundai Rural Police Station, alleging that BJP workers had assaulted and taken Rout away. The unrest led to the cancellation of the college elections and a sine die closure.
