A tree branch helped save the life of Binayak Dakua, a youth from Konkarda village in Sanakhemundi, Ganjam district, who was swept away by strong flood currents. Binayak was crossing a waterlogged road with a stick after his motorcycle broke down while he was travelling to Sheragada with friends. When he lost his footing, he was carried away by the current but managed to cling to a tree branch for nearly eight hours. He waved his shirt to alert people for help. After receiving information from the Sanakhemundi Tehsildar, an NDRF team rescued him safely.
