Allegations have surfaced over the purchase of tribal land in Koida of Sundargarh district ahead of a proposed industrial and mining project. Tribal residents allege that senior clerk Narendra Kumar Kishan purchased several parcels of land, including land registered in the names of relatives, before information about the proposed project became public. A land-acquisition notification reportedly lists Kishan’s land among the properties to be acquired. According to the report, the total compensation for the acquisition is ₹185 crore, including around ₹50 crore worth of land allegedly held in the names of government officials and their relatives. Local tribal residents have demanded an impartial probe into when the land was purchased, at what price and whether prior project information was available. Kishan’s response was unavailable. Sundargarh Collector Dr Shubhankar Mahapatra said the Sub-Collector has been directed to investigate. The allegations and their veracity will be established through the inquiry.
