A worker died and another was critically injured after they were trapped while clearing aquatic weeds from the Gobari River near Malua in Kendrapara block. The deceased has been identified as local resident Babuli Sethi, while critically injured Pitambar Sethi was shifted to Cuttack for treatment. According to eyewitnesses, a contractor engaged by the Drainage Department had deployed around eight workers to clear aquatic weeds from the river near Malua village. During the cleaning operation, a sudden surge of floodwater reportedly swept in, leaving two workers trapped under the weeds. The incident resulted in one death and left another worker seriously injured.
