Allegations of large-scale irregularities in a plantation project have surfaced in Rampilo village under Danagadi tehsil in Odisha’s Jajpur district. According to the report, around 30,000 saplings were planted in the Godigotha and Rampilo areas nearly five years ago by the Jajpur Road Forest Range, using ₹2.78 crore from the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) fund. While some trees are reportedly visible in Godigotha, Rampilo presents a largely barren landscape, raising questions about the project’s implementation and maintenance. Local residents allege that the Forest Department failed to water and protect the saplings, allowing cattle to destroy them. Cooperative Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta has targeted the previous BJD government, promising an investigation and stating that those found involved in irregularities will not be spared. The Range Officer reportedly said he was unaware of the matter, while the BJD’s response was not available. Residents are demanding an investigation into the missing trees, the expenditure and accountability for the project.
