Serious irregularities have been flagged in the implementation of the Ama Pokhari scheme at Khallikote NAC in Ganjam district, according to a 299-page audit report of the Housing & Urban Development Department cited in the report. The audit alleges irregularities ranging from tendering and work execution to bills and cash-book records. One major allegation concerns a ₹72,000 bill shown for hiring a Hywa vehicle against registration number OD-07 AN-5588, which the audit team reportedly found was a motorcycle, not a truck. The report also alleges that machines were used for work that was supposed to be carried out manually by labourers, while bills were raised in the name of workers. The Khallikote NAC chairman disputes some figures mentioned in the audit report, while the Urban Development Department has ordered recovery of the ₹72,000 and other excess payments from responsible officials’ salaries and directed initiation of a criminal case. The NAC Executive Officer said a show-cause notice has been received and action will be taken if irregularities or fraud are established.
