BRICS countries are discussing ways to reduce the dominance of the US dollar and develop their own financial mechanisms. The focus is on increasing trade in local currencies and linking digital payment systems to reduce dependence on the dollar. The issue is being widely discussed within the grouping, with the Delhi Declaration reportedly calling for greater use of member countries’ local currencies in mutual trade instead of the US dollar. Rather than introducing a new common currency, the BRICS grouping is focusing on strengthening existing local currencies and digital payment systems.
