Ahead of the festive season, the administration launched a major eviction drive in Astaranga main market of Puri district. Traders who had allegedly encroached on government land and roads were issued notices on September 22 to remove their shops within seven days. As the shops were not removed within the stipulated time, the administration used bulldozers to clear the encroachments following long-standing complaints of traffic problems caused by road blockades.
