Indian Flydubai pilot Captain Smit Machchhar suffered a skull fracture and serious hand injuries after being attacked in the cockpit of a Flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The attack affected his vision and optical nerve, causing difficulty in seeing and severe headaches. After undergoing primary surgery and special cranial reconstruction in Saudi Arabia, he was shifted to the UAE and is gradually recovering.

The attack left Captain Smit seriously injured, but his courage and presence of mind helped save the lives of 174 passengers on board.

According to the report, Omani co-pilot Hamam Al-Hammami allegedly struck Captain Smit on the head from behind with a crash axe kept in the cockpit.
