The US House of Representatives has passed a Russia sanctions bill by 262–159, giving President Donald Trump the authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on major buyers of Russian oil and gas, including India. However, the legislation does not automatically impose a 100% tariff on Indian goods. For India, continuing to buy Russian oil could expose its exports to potential US tariffs, while reducing Russian oil purchases could put pressure on energy security and costs. The development has added a new dimension to India-US trade and energy relations.
