A shocking incident has come to light from Barsinga village under Balimi police limits in Hindol, Dhenkanal district, where a family performed funeral rites for a man they believed had died, only to find him alive and back home a month later. Twenty-nine-year-old Sanatan Naik, who was described as having a mild mental health condition, had gone missing from home on July 17 after leaving with his bicycle. Ten days later, a decomposed body of a young man was recovered from a paddy field near Kunua village under Rasol police limits. After seeing the clothes, the family identified the body as Sanatan’s, following which the body was handed over to them and the funeral was performed. Exactly a month later, police from the Joranda outpost under Gandia police station informed the family that Sanatan was alive. The family then travelled to Joranda and brought him home. Police reaction on the matter was not immediately available.
