Floods are not just washing away homes and crops in Odisha but also putting the future and livelihoods of people in vulnerable areas at risk every year. Despite relief measures and repeated assurances, the situation remains largely unchanged, with agricultural land submerged, houses damaged and livelihoods disrupted. The recurring crisis raises serious questions over why a permanent solution has not been found and whether the problem stems from policy failures or a lack of long-term planning. As governments change but the ground reality remains the same, the key question is whether nature alone is responsible for the annual flood misery or whether administrative and policy shortcomings also play a role. The need for a sustainable, long-term solution remains a major concern.
