‘Kangaroo Court’ in Balasore Village: ₹30,000 Fine Imposed, Bike Held Over Water Tank Theft

ସରପଞ୍ଚଙ୍କ ଉପସ୍ଥିତିରେ ଗାଁରେ ବସିଲା ‘କଙ୍ଗାରୁ କୋର୍ଟ’। ୩୦ ହଜାର ଟଙ୍କା ଫାଇନ୍ କରାଗଲା। ଜରିମାନା ଟଙ୍କା ଦେଇ ନପାରିବାରୁ ତାଙ୍କ ବାଇକକୁ ଗାଁ କମିଟି ନିକଟରେ ରଖିବାକୁ ପଡ଼ିଥିଲା । ପରେ ଜମି ବନ୍ଧକ ରଖି ୩୦ ହଜାର ଟଙ୍କା ଦେଇ ବାଇକ୍ ମୁକୁଳାଇଲେ। ଘଟଣାକୁ ନେଇ ନୀଳଗିରି ଥାନାରେ ଲିଖିତ ଅଭିଯୋଗ ହୋଇଛି।

A village meeting described as a ‘Kangaroo Court’ was reportedly held in the presence of the Sarpanch in Bhalukashuni village under Nilagiri police limits in Balasore district. A water tank was allegedly stolen from the Forest Committee building on September 1 and was later reportedly recovered from the house of Debendra Singh. Following this, a village meeting was held at night, where ₹30,000 was allegedly imposed as a fine on Debendra in the presence of the Sarpanch. As he did not have the money immediately, he reportedly had to leave his motorcycle with the village committee. Later, he allegedly arranged ₹30,000 by mortgaging land, paid the amount to the village committee and got his bike released. A written complaint has been filed at Nilagiri Police Station, and the matter is under investigation.
