On the auspicious occasion of Mahalaya, Maa Samaleswari, the presiding deity of Balangir, is offering darshan to devotees in her special Dhabalamukhi Besha. On this sacred day, the Goddess appears in white, a unique form she assumes only once a year. According to religious belief, devotees who have darshan of Maa Samaleswari in this divine form receive the spiritual merit equivalent to taking a holy dip in the River Ganga. The occasion holds great religious significance for devotees, who seek the blessings of the Goddess on this auspicious day.
