Allegations of disrespecting Mahaprasad have surfaced near Puri Railway Station, where a makeshift hotel owner is accused of collecting leftover Mahaprasad and reselling it after reheating and adding coconut, onion, garlic and other seasoning. The incident has triggered strong reactions in the area. Locals allege that the hotel owner prepares the leftover Mahaprasad for sale and also claim that non-vegetarian food is sold at the same establishment. People in Puri say leftover Mahaprasad from wedding, Brata, Sudhi Ghar, birthday and other functions is often distributed among poor people near the railway station. The alleged reuse and sale of the Mahaprasad has led to strong resentment among local residents, who have termed the practice disrespectful.
